"what's in a name - Raanana"
"Ahuza Aleph-New York" was the name of the 1st group of pioneers who met in New York and founded the town.
Local Arabs temporarily nicknamed the settlement "Americaya" - "Little America".
The members of Ahuza Aleph-New York who remained in the US sent the settlers a postcard, in Yiddish, propising the name "Rananieh". The settlers, including Chaim Eliezer Lazar, one of the authors
of modern Hebrew, insisted that the name of the settlement be Hebraicized, without any Yiddish sound.
Ranaieh became RAANANA.
In 1936, Raanana was officially recognized as a local authority, and elections were held which were sanctioned by the Mandate authorities.

"Ahuza Aleph-New York" était le nom du 1er groupe de pionniers rassemblés à New York qui fondèrent la ville.
Les arabes locaux surnommèrent l’implantation « Américaya » - « la petite Amérique ».
Les membres de "Ahuza Aleph-New York"qui étaient restés aux US envoyèrent une carte postale en Yiddish aux colons, leur proposant le nom de
« Rananieh ».
Les pionniers, y compris Chaïm Eliezer Lazar, un des rédacteurs de l’hébreu moderne, insistèrent pour que le nom ne comporte aucune connotation yiddish et soit
hébraïsé.
Ranaieh devint RAANANA.
En 1936, Raanana fut officiellement reconnue comme autorité locale, et des élections furent organisées avec l’autorisation des autorités
mandatées.
